Early Careers Program and Internship

Start your journey with Goodman Fielder for a career of opportunity

Early Careers program

The Early Careers Program is a full-time employment opportunity open for talented early career professionals who will become our future leaders. Operating in the FMCG industry means no two days are the same. The pace is fast, the work is diverse and our various business functions need to work closely together to ensure our iconic brands are on the shelf every day and top of mind for our customers.

Our program runs for 18 – 24 months, and you will be supported every step of the way as you explore and learn about our business. You will gain valuable on-the-job experience, and get training across different functions which will give you true insight into how Goodman Fielder works.

At the end of the program, you will have a thorough understanding of the end-to-end operations of our business and how our functions work together to make everyday food better for everyone. Our supportive learning environment will provide you opportunities to grow and develop, setting you up for success in your future career at Goodman Fielder.

We are looking for Early Career Professionals who:

  • Have up to 2 years’ work experience
  • Are ambitious and passionate about forging a real career with us and playing a part in our ongoing success

Current Grads' Stories

Leaving University and stepping into the Early Careers program has been an awesome way to transition into the working world.

I have loved the opportunity to gain exposure to different functions across the business which has helped me expand my wider business knowledge and skills. Being given responsibility to lead projects has been very rewarding.

The continuous support I have received throughout my program journey has been invaluable. I am able to approach my manager, mentor, program lead, sponsor or HR business partner for any advice or just friendly face to talk to.

Working with a diverse range of well-known brands every day is a great addition and a very exciting part of working at Goodman Fielder. Wherever you look our products can be found.

The key to a great understanding is depth and breadth, the Early Careers Program encourages you to explore both. With three different projects across 18 months I have been given the opportunity to examine our route to consumer through the eyes of our various business functions and create for myself an acute understanding of just how interrelated an FMCG company is!

Although there is still much to learn, I feel like the Goodman Fielder graduate program has put me in the best possible stead to perform in whatever future roles I may hold in the company.

I would encourage anyone starting out on their work-life journey to grasp at the opportunity for a deeper and wider understanding – the GF ECP picks up this idea and runs with it.

I have been very fortunate to be part of the 2020 Early careers cohort and have learnt many invaluable skills from technical expertise within the packaging realm to stakeholder communication. The longer projects in different functions, which is unique to the GF early careers program, allowed me to fully immerse myself in the different roles and gain a better understanding for that function.

Though international experience was off the table, I still had the opportunity to travel to the amazing city of Palmerston North where I am completing my second project in Continuous Improvement. I could continue to harp on about the different skills I have learnt over the program, but the biggest call out for this program would have to be the people. Everyone in the teams I have worked in/closely with, have made me feel welcome and comfortable. I have received continuous support from my sponsor.  Also, the other grads within the program, both here in NZ and Australia, have become a close-knit group with someone always being there to turn to.

Internships

Goodman Fielder are proud to partner with Career Seekers and Career Trackers, providing internships to create bright futures.

Career Seekers is a non-profit organisation supporting Australia’s humanitarian entrants into professional careers. The program supports both refugees and people seeking asylum who are either currently studying at university or looking to restart their professional career in Australia.

Career Trackers is a non-profit with the goal of creating pathways and support systems for Indigenous young adults to attend and graduate from university with high marks and industry experience.

The internships provide team members an opportunity to gain experience in a corporate environment in an area matched to their experience or area of study.

Applications for internships are managed directly by Career Seekers and Career Trackers.

Internship Stories

These internships have opened doors to opportunities that may not have existed without them.

My introduction to Goodman Fielder was through the CareerTrackers Program. I was very fortunate to be involved in three internships throughout my university studies and my internship areas were matched based on my area of study.

The knowledge, skills and experience I gained from these internships were immeasurable. The practical and theoretical learnings taught at university came to life through these internships. I cannot express how grateful I am for the teams I worked alongside, that provided a supportive environment, allowing me to grow on an individual and professional level. They have provided industry experience, business knowledge and operations and have greatly contributed to myself gaining a permanent position within the business.
